Shopify Order Printer is Shopify’s own free app for printing invoices and other documents from customizable templates. The former “Order Printer” app is no longer available on the App Store. Information reflects 6 October 2026 and comes from the App Store listing and Shopify Help.
In short: If your Shopify orders should produce not just a printout but a finished invoice or credit note as an e-invoice, automatically, Kurswacht Invoice is the more obvious choice. The documented difference lies in the workflow:
- Automatic instead of a print job: Kurswacht Invoice creates invoices on payment and credit notes on refund, without a click; unclear cases are shown for review. For Order Printer, Shopify describes selecting and printing orders, one at a time or up to 50 per run.
- What you get: final, sequentially numbered documents as PDF/A-3 with ZUGFeRD XML in the EN 16931 profile, technically validated before release, with a validation report; credit notes with their own number range and a reference to the original invoice; plus a monthly export for your accountant.

What Kurswacht Invoice brings for the DACH region
- Stops before the number: if details are missing, such as a complete address, or a tax case is unclear, the app assigns no invoice number and shows you why.
- Everyday tax cases: reverse charge and export notes, mixed rates such as 7% and 19% with a selectable shipping-tax allocation.
- E-invoices for consumers too, with gross prices – every document the app creates is an e-invoice.
- From Mainz, Germany: questions are answered directly by the app’s developer.
When Shopify Order Printer may still fit
- It should cost nothing. Order Printer is free; Kurswacht Invoice is free for up to 25 documents a month on the Free plan, then €0.10 per document (provisional prices).
- You want to design documents freely with HTML, CSS and Liquid. Kurswacht Invoice offers language, logo, accent color, footer and rule-based notes, but no fully programmable template.
- You only need an occasional printout and already have another solution for invoices, e-invoices and archiving.
Good to know: Kurswacht Invoice does not invoice orders with tips, duties, gift card purchases, a zero total or several tax rates on one line; if the address is incomplete, the app stops before the number. After uninstalling, the app deletes all documents – statutory retention is your responsibility, so keep the monthly exports. Details under troubleshooting and export.
